Good morning! Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. Mine was pretty good because I got to spend it with family, and a total surprise too!
Thursday after work, Ryan and I were planning to drive to his hometown to spend some time with his family, but he mentioned we needed to take a detour first. Well, it turns out, the detour was to the other side of the state, Chicago to be precise, where my family waited as a surprise to celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday! After I got past my anxiety of not knowing what was planned, it turned out to be a great weekend.
Friday, we got up bright and early, had breakfast and then headed to the Miami vs Cubs game. But first, some pre-gaming with the fam.
Watching a game at Wrigley Field? Check! The stadium was pretty small and cozy, which was a lot of fun.
Even though the Cubs ended up losing, it was still a great time.
Then we stopped to try our luck at the batting cages before heading out to get some classic Chicago-style pizza for dinner with some friends. Back to the hotel for some fun card games and bed time.
Saturday was all about Chicago sights. After breakfast, we went on an Architectural Boat Tour which was pretty interesting. It point out art and styles you definitely wouldn’t have noticed just walking around.
Then we did some walking and touring, stopping to see some classic Chicago sights, like Cloud Gate and the Chicago theater sign.
After walking the Navy Pier, we went back to the hotel for some much needed naps. Then we headed to Millennium Park to watch the fireworks. It was actually, less crowded than I anticipated, so it was very nice.
Plus, the buildings around the park were decorated for the occasion.
The fireworks show was kinda in the distance, but still pretty nice.
After a long brunch on Sunday morning, we headed to the John Hancock building to enjoy the views from the lounge. Drinks and views, yes please!
My family also used the opportunity to sign me a compilation of birthday songs with some cake.
I’m definitely grateful for my wonderful family and all they do for me. Also, for Ryan just going with the flow with all these crazy plans. Love them!
