Happy Three Kings’ Day!

Feliz Día de los Reyes Magos!

It’s a holiday today in Puerto Rico, so I am definitely celebrating in my own way. The tradition of celebrating the Epiphany comes from the Spaniards and the Catholic religion influencing our culture.

Traditionally, kids gather grass or hay in a shoe box and leave it at the foot of their bed for the kings’ camels (sort of like the cookies and milk for Santa), and then the Magi leave presents for the kids (like they brought gold, frankincense and myrrh to Jesus).

Parties and family gatherings are the norm, as well as tons and tons of good food and music.

Ryan and I will be celebrating with a Puerto Rican meal (pasteles, tostones and pork). I’m still trying to figure out what other special tradition to start once baby comes… We’ll see.

In the meantime, we’ll just eat some good food and spend some time together.

Hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are!
