Crownies, It’s a Cupcake and a Brownie

It’s the middle of the week and I figured it’s also about time I share how to make a great any-occasion treat, crownies. If you’ve never heard of them, don’t worry. I actually was made aware of them thanks to Tony Romo’s DirectTV commercial. Since Ryan and I are both Cowboys fans, I decided to make some for Thanksgiving Day’s game.

They were actually quite easy to make. It just depends on how involved you want to get with them. For example, instead of baking cupcakes from scratch, I decided to go with the good old Funfetti cupcakes from Pillsbury.

Mixed the ingredients, baked them, and done! Easy, delicious cupcakes ready to be decorated in no time. I made these first, to make sure they were completely cooled down before decorating.

Next, it’s brownie time. I decided to make these from scratch in consideration to my paleo sister. Didn’t want to break her diet too much. Plus, I’ve made these before and they’re amazing.

I also added chocolate chips to them, which are not paleo, but whatever. After they’re done baking, let them cool completely before cutting.

In the meantime, you can work on the frosting. I used an easy buttercream frosting by mixing 1 cup of unsalted butter (softened), 2.5 cups of confectioner’s sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until the mixture became creamy.

For an extra touch and to further resemble the crownies in the commercial, I added a few drops of blue food coloring.

Finally, it’s assembly time. First, pipe a small dot of icing on top of every cupcake to act as the glue for the brownie.

Then, place a small square of brownie on top of each cupcake.

Finally, pipe frosting on top of each brownie. Tip: if you’re traveling with the crownies, insert a toothpick in the middle to further secure the tower.

Needless to say, they were delicious and I kinda want some more now.

They would also look super cute with Christmas colors and sprinkles. Either way, they’re super fun to make and eat!

Enjoy your day!
